A timeless Australian icon
A powerful symbol of national pride, the Kangaroo embodies the spirit, resilience and natural beauty of Australia. As such, it takes pride of place in the series of investment coins that are the hallmark of this country.
The iconic Kangaroo design
The coin's iconic design features a leaping kangaroo surrounded by stylised rays of sunshine. Inscriptions on the wavy edge include "AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO" and the weight, fineness and year of mintage of the coin, along with the Perth Mint's "P" mintmark. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by Dan Thorne.
Authentication features
The coin contains a security feature on the reverse. This is a microscopic laser engraved letter that is only visible under a magnifying glass.
Perth Mint
The Perth Mint is Australia's official bullion and coin mint, wholly owned by the Government of Western Australia. The Perth Mint was established on 20 June 1899, two years before the federation of Australia in 1901, and was the last of the three Australian colonial branches of the Royal United Kingdom Mint (after the now defunct Sydney and Melbourne mints) dedicated to refining gold from the gold rush and to minting gold sovereigns and half-sovereigns for the British Empire. Along with the Royal Australian Mint, which produces Australian dollar coins for circulation, the Perth Mint is the older of the two Australian mints issuing legal tender coins.
